Your celebrant is the person who will officially marry you (kind of an important role, right?). Not only do they handle the legal side of things, but they also set the tone for your ceremony, ensuring it feels just right for you as a couple.

Of course, I’d love to be the one standing up there with you on your big day, but no matter who you choose, it’s important to find someone who fits your style, values, and vision. Here’s a handy checklist to help you pick the perfect celebrant:

• Are they available on your date? Celebrants (especially the good ones!) book out quickly, so lock them in as early as possible.

• Do you connect with them? Your celebrant should feel like the right fit—someone who understands your personalities and can bring your love story to life in a way that feels natural and you.

• What’s their vibe? Do you want someone formal and traditional, relaxed and fun, or somewhere in between? Make sure their style aligns with your vision for the day.

• What’s included in their service? Ask about their process—do they offer custom ceremonies? Will they help with vow writing? Do they handle all the legal paperwork? These little extras can make a big difference.

• How experienced are they? A great celebrant should be confident, organised, and able to handle any unexpected hiccups with ease. Bonus points if they come recommended by other couples!

• Do they use a microphone and PA system? If you’re having an outdoor ceremony or a larger wedding, having quality audio is key so that your guests can hear every word (especially the all-important I do!).

• Do they have good reviews? Check out testimonials and reviews from previous couples. This will give you an idea of their professionalism, personality, and overall experience.

• Are they flexible? A good celebrant will work with you to create a ceremony that reflects you. Make sure they’re open to incorporating special traditions, readings, or personal touches that matter to you.
